Bob Woodruff Foundation Announces Fall 2016 Grants
The Bob Woodruff Foundation today announced $1.8 million in grants, awarded to more than two-dozen nonprofit programs meeting the needs of today’s impacted veterans, service members and their families.
“These grants provide an opportunity to ease the transition of returning service members, particularly those who have been injured, while promoting collaboration across complementary services and within our grantee network,” said Anne Marie Dougherty, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. “By modeling sound investments, we have the unique opportunity to address the issues facing post-9/11 veterans while promoting responsible philanthropy.”
Beyond researching the individual merits of each program, grants were awarded based on specific issue areas that are emerging or insufficiently supported by the public and private sector, and identified as strategic priorities for the Bob Woodruff Foundation to fund.
The latest awards emphasized quality of life programs, including those that seek better legal outcomes for those who have served; provide healthy activities to engage veterans in their communities; and ensure that military children thrive physically, socially, and academically.
Additionally, education & employment grants recognized that career interests are varied and range from agricultural aspirations to corporate and entrepreneurial interests. Rehabilitation and recovery programs promote veteran well being, through a range of creative and alternative therapies.
The foundation’s ability to find, fund and shape these programs stems from a decade’s worth of experience.
