Project Sanctuary helps active duty military and veteran families address family challenges and strengthen their family relationships with an evidence-based program built on compassionate advocacy, resiliency training and improving communication. Project Sanctuary uses licensed counselors, social workers, and certified therapeutic recreation specialists, in addition to peer mentors, to support military families and improve their coping and relationship skills. Their weeklong retreats include both outdoor recreation to break down barriers and heal the interpersonal fragmentation sometimes caused by military life, and also structured courses to improve relationship interactions and financial skills. A grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation will permit 23 post-9/11 military families to attend a Project Sanctuary retreat.
