Healing from Military Sexual Trauma

The challenges of reintegration can be magnified for those service members who have experienced combat stress, trauma, or military sexual trauma (MST), and research indicates that female veterans who experienced MST are especially likely to avoid VA facilities. Further, of the 1,904 Veterans Administration facilities in the United States, fewer than 10 offer residential or inpatient mental health care designed specifically for these veterans, and only 3 provide treatment in female-only settings. With this grant from the Bob Woodruff Foundation, the Omega Institute will provide critical mental healthcare for female veterans in an environment tailored to them. The BWF grant will permit 30 female veterans to receive a range of evidence-based healing modalities, including yoga, group dialogue, meditation, journaling and empowerment skill-building training to nurture mind, body, and spirit at this 1-week residential program.
