Our Military Kids

Cultivating Confidence and Community for Military Kids

Service Area: National

Goal: Provide at least 90 military children and teens access to extracurricular activities to increase their social connection, self-confidence, and wellbeing

Military children and teens with a parent deployed in the National Guard or Reserves or a parent recovering from severe combat wounds can be at particularly high risk for feelings of stress and isolation. Children with a parent in the National Guard or Reserves may feel caught between military and civilian life, and are often geographically dispersed throughout the country, unable to take advantage of the support an active-duty military community often provides. Meanwhile, children in caregiving families, or Hidden Helpers, report especially high rates of anxiety and depression, and often lack access to age-appropriate opportunities to connect with their peers. Our Military Kids addresses the need for social connection by providing scholarships for extracurricular activities to military children and teens during their parent’s deployment and/or recovery from combat-related wounds. This NFL-BWF investment will provide at least 90 military children and teens access to extracurricular activities to increase their social connection, self-confidence, and wellbeing
