Project Healing Waters Fly-Fishing (PHWFF) provides military and veterans with a lifelong skill that promotes an improved quality of life and an avenue to heal both physical and hidden wounds, away from hospital stays and rehabilitation sessions. In addition, the national fly rod building program promotes physical dexterity and facilitates camaraderie among the participating veterans and promotes healing through the power of art. The Bob Woodruff Foundation grant permits 900 PHWFF members to build customized fly rods, and convenes regional PHWFF leaders to discuss best practices and ensure effective program delivery.
