Outreach and Engagement to Increase Bay Area Veterans’ Health and Connection

Swords to Plowshares is a community-based nonprofit that has provided supportive services and service connections to San Francisco Bay Area veterans for 47 years. The pandemic has isolated many veterans without family support, especially those who are most vulnerable. Swords to Plowshares recognized this urgent need in the clients they serve and responded by building a Drop-in Center. The Drop-in Center provides mental health services, clinical case management, legal services, employment and job training, homelessness prevention and housing placement, community referrals for substance use treatment, linkage to healthcare and disability benefits, and food for veterans experiencing homelessness. This BWF grant will expand staff and on-site supportive services to provide extended service hours on evenings and weekends to meet the service and connection needs of at least 300 unsheltered, senior, and isolated veterans.
