The Mission Continues

Service Platoon Program

Service Area: National (40+ locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico)

Goal: Increase social connectedness and improve the mental health of 75 platoon leaders and leadership team members participating in the Service Platoon Program’s nationwide days of service, projects, and social events

The Mission Continues’ (TMC) vision is that all veterans with a desire to continue their service can be part of a movement to transform communities. The core of TMC’s programs and volunteer-led community service projects is a focus on veteran wellbeing and empowerment. Their programs and community service activities are built around the Empowered Veteran Index framework, which ensures veterans have opportunities to connect with others, experience personal growth, and make an impact in communities. Engaging with service platoons provides veterans with the opportunity to engage and connect with other veterans and community members while generating community impact in a real and tangible way. Each service platoon holds projects that are aligned with the needs of their community partner. On any given project day, a platoon could complete activities such as building planters for a community garden, painting a mural on the side of a school, or laying down new sod for a park. By serving as a platoon leader, veterans leverage their individual skill sets and their desire to become engaged citizen leaders. Their leadership role enables them to connect more deeply with other veterans and to their communities, decreasing the effects of social isolation and increasing personal and professional networking opportunities. With this NFL-BWF Healthy Lifestyles and Creating Community investment, TMC’s Service Platoon Program will increase social connectedness and improve the mental health of 75 platoon leaders and leadership team members participating in the Service Platoon Program’s city-wide national days of service, projects, and social events.
