Lincoln Community Foundation, Veterans Support Initiative
LINCOLN, LANCASTER COUNTY, NEBRASKA
The Lincoln Community Foundation’s Veteran Support Initiative is striving to embed local veteran needs into our community agenda, Prosper Lincoln. Representatives from all sectors of our city – businesses, nonprofit organizations, neighborhoods, government, faith communities, philanthropies, and individuals – have met and designed a framework to ensure youth are successful, our economy grows and our community is strong and vibrant. For every veteran and their family, we want to nurture every child on the path to success, ensure access to training and support for in-demand jobs and create a world-class ecosystem for innovation.
Some top needs for veterans in our community are: the establishment of a modern 21st century VA Clinic to replace the outdated one currently on Lincoln’s VA Campus; free or reduced-fee legal assistance in the areas of estate planning, debt collection defense, bankruptcy, document review, child support review and modification, child custody and visitation, filing for divorce, and other general civil matters; increased coordination of services and better communication to encourage younger veterans to seek them out.
