Bob Woodruff Foundation Welcomes New Director of Operations & Finance
The Bob Woodruff Foundation is pleased to welcome retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brett Morash, as its new director of operations and finance. Morash, who holds a doctorate in humanities from Salve Regina University, will fulfill many roles, from budget planning and accounting to overseeing event management and strategic planning.
“Since retiring I have seen too many fellow veterans that I have served with impacted by war with an adverse impact on their mental health, employment options, and homelessness,” said Morash. “The Bob Woodruff Foundation is exactly the right organization to give veterans and their families an opportunity to rise up and live fulfilling and engaging lives across the nation.”
Following his 20-year career as a naval surface warfare officer, Morash most recently was the vice president of veteran’s services at Services for the UnderServed, a nonprofit based in New York City. There, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of multiple programs related to veterans’ issues including homelessness, employment, mental health and wellness.
Additionally, Morash has been an adjunct professor at Norwich University since 2012, where he teaches courses on project management and intelligence operations.
While in the Navy, Morash deployed several times including to the Persian Gulf and Horn of Africa. His final assignment was on the military faculty of the U.S. Naval War College where he educated military officers and senior civilian personnel on strategy, risk analysis, and operational planning.

Brett’s leadership experience and knowledge of the issues facing today’s veterans will help us continue to build our best-in-class team to carry out the good work ahead,” said Anne Marie Dougherty, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
The foundation, co-founded by ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff and his family after he sustained serious injuries while covering the Iraq War, is dedicated to ensuring that post-9/11 injured service members, veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home. Since its founding, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has invested nearly $30 million to find, fund and shape programs that create positive returns for our nation’s heroes.
“It is a personal passion to help my fellow veterans, having made the transition myself a few years ago from active duty to civilian, I know how important that step is,” said Morash. “It is apparent to me that the Bob Woodruff Foundation will allow me to continue to serve and make an impact on the national level.”
Morash received a bachelor’s in marine transportation from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He furthered his education at Framingham State College earning a master’s in business administration. He later earned a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Morash resides in New Rochelle, N.Y., with his wife and two children.
