12/2/2023 American Airpower Museum Hosts Honor Flight Reunion of WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans

10:30am – 1:00pm
Cost: Free
On 12/2 American Airpower Museum will host Honor Flight Reunion of WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans at 1030am EST. For more information contact Robert Salant, [email protected] or (718) 791-4758.

American Airpower Museum is proud to host an Honor Flight Long Island Reunion on December 2nd, reuniting 45 Veterans who took a free Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on September 29, 2023. These Long Island heroes visited their military memorials, commiserated with fellow Veterans and exchanged stories. Honor Flight’s mission is to honor fellow Long Islanders who served in the Armed Forces of the United States, by providing all-expense paid one-day trips to D.C. for the Veterans.

Thanks to HFLI, these 45 Veterans took a free, early-morning Southwest flight from MacArthur Airport to Washington, D.C. Veterans, their Guardians and Honor Flight officials visited World War II, Korean War and Vietnam Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery for a “Changing of the Guard,” the Air Force Memorial and Iwo Jima Memorial. They returned to MacArthur later that evening for a rousing welcome home by the Saffron United Pipe Band, plus thunderous applause from hundreds of family, friends and supporters!

According to Bill Jones, HFLI President, West Point 1972 Graduate and U.S. Army Veteran, “This special flight included 42 Vietnam War Veterans who received long overdue recognition and thanks for their service,” Jones said. “They were accompanied by 3 elder comrades, 1 World War II Veteran and 2 Korean War Veterans. What this flight really represented was a ‘Big Hug’ to all our Veterans from Honor Flight, their families and supporters, who make such flights possible,” Jones added.

On December 2nd the Museum doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the reunion runs from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at AAM’s Hangar 3, 1230 New Highway, Farmingdale, NY. Admission for the Veterans, their Guardians and families, is free. The public is also invited to attend FREE OF CHARGE if they arrive between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. After 11:00 a.m., regular Museum admission is $15 for Adults, $12 for Seniors and Veterans, $10 for kids 5 to 12.

Come and cheer these Veterans during our “Ceremony of Honors,” as they receive personalized Tribute Journals full of photos taken during their D.C. trip. This great patriotic event includes speeches by HFLI President Bill Jones and AAM President and Founder Jeff Clyman. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Band will play a popular patriotic medley known as the “Armed Forces Salute,” featuring the five official musical themes of the U.S. Armed Forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. Free refreshments for all provided by HFLI.

HFLI is accepting applications from Veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Long Island Veterans are encouraged to sign up by going to the HFLI website, www.honorflightlongisland.org. It’s important to submit an application, as that will guarantee placement on the list. Veterans fly for free, thanks to donations from across Long Island. They are accompanied by Guardians, able-bodied volunteers who donate $400 (tax deductible) to offset their travel costs. If there is no family member to act as a Guardian, HFLI has volunteers ready to step up for the privilege of escorting our heroes to their memorials. Questions? Call Jamie Bowden at (631) 702-2423 or email [email protected].

About Honor Flight Network

The Honor Flight Network was formed in 2005 with a mission of honoring our nation’s World War II Veterans by flying them to visit the Washington, D.C. WWII Memorial dedicated in 2004. The Honor Flight Network is currently comprised of over 130 hubs throughout the country dedicated to carrying out the Honor Flight mission. In addition to WWII Veterans, the organization now transports those who served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, later conflicts and in special cases of terminal illness or injury, Veterans from more recent service eras. Since 2005, the Honor Flight Network has taken more than 250,000 Veterans to Washington, D.C. Since 2007, Honor Flight Long Island has flown over 1,900 Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit their military memorials. For more information, visit honorflight.org.

12/7/2023 The Race to Control Reality The Russian Narrative vs Reality

7:00pm – 8:45pm
Cost: Free
On 12/7 The Military and Veterans Group of Braver Angels will host The Race to Control Reality The Russian Narrative vs Reality on Zoom at 7pm EST. For more information contact Al Smith at [email protected], (203) 775-3754, or click the link below.

The Military and Veterans Group of Braver Angels presents “An Evening with Rear Admiral (ret.) David Manero,” who will speak on and answer your questions about “The Race to Control Reality, The Russian Narrative vs Reality.” The live Zoom presentation is scheduled for Thursday, December 7th, 2023, at 7:00 Eastern/4:00 pm Pacific Time.

Rear Adm. (ret.) David Manero served in the United States Navy as a naval aviator, flying in combat operations and as a Navy Test Pilot. He later became a foreign area officer, the Navy’s professionals who focus on working with other nations and militaries. Two of his assignments as a FAO placed him in Moscow; first, as the U.S. Naval Attach to Russia and then as the Senior Defense Official to Russia. In this capacity, Rear Adm. Manero witnessed, first-hand, the effectiveness of the Kremlin at seizing and shaping the political narrative as a way of controlling the Russian population.

What does it mean that a people’s reality can be controlled, and what does it mean for our divided nation? Are we more or less resilient to those seeking to shape our narrative?

Welcome everyone to the end of the year holiday social!!!

On behalf of all the leadership team, I would like to personally thank you for coming out, giving up your time and effort to make the events we planned for 2023 possible. We wouldn’t have gotten this far without each and every one of you. Whether you came out for the day or for an hour, it goes a long way, and it’s greatly appreciated.

In addition, we have done more work this year than any other year up until this point. How much you may ask? We have done OVER 70 EVENTS TILL THIS DAY!!!!!! WE.PUT.IN.WORK.MAYNE!!!!! We have doubled our efforts from 2022 and with your support, we would like to keep the momentum going into 2024. Let’s worry about that after the holidays.

This event is more for y’all than us as Platoon Leaders/Leadership Team. Prepare to eat good, drink good, and hopefully feel better going into 2024!

Bring your family, friends, baby momma, baby daddy, sneaky link, trophy girl/guy, or that someone you’ve been keeping away from the spotlight! We don’t judge around here (except me, I’m totally judging you). We’ll have something for someone, and even if you don’t want to participate and just want to chill out, that’s fine too.

We will have catered food, Cash Bar (please tip the bartender…. please), games, and possibly Karaoke if you want to test your vocal skills. If you want to bring your own drink/food, you may do so at your own leisure.

In the Spirit of Giving during the Holiday Season, Please consider dropping off a Packaged Wrapped Toy 🧸 🎁 and/or a gently Used Coat for those Less Fortunate during these Winter Months 🥶☃️❄️.

As you all should know by now, living in New York City, the trains/buses tend to act up on the weekends, so please plan accordingly if you plan on coming out.

How to get there:

By Bus: Take the B52 or B44/B44-SBS to Gates Ave/Nostrand Ave

By Train: Take the A, C, or LIRR to Nostrand Ave
