Join us for a month-long online film screening of the powerful and insightful documentary, “Art of Medicine: Pharmacists Saving Lives via Suicide Prevention.” This 17-minute film takes us on a profound journey into the vital role pharmacists can play in suicide prevention. While the film was crafted with pharmacists in mind, its messages and scenarios are universally applicable, reminding us all of our potential to make a difference when someone is in crisis.

Film Synopsis: “Pharmacists are dedicated to providing unwavering support and care for our Veterans. Together, we share a commitment to reducing the stigma surrounding suicide while empowering each other to take meaningful action in ensuring the safety of our Veterans. This film underscores that each one of us possesses the ability to support a veteran through their darkest moments by remaining calm and using words that are supportive and encouraging. Honesty and compassion emerge as our most powerful tools in the quest to save a life. In ‘Art of Medicine: Pharmacists Saving Lives via Suicide Prevention,’ three exceptional pharmacists – Jeff Gold, Alexis Pruitt, and Leiha Lutz – share their profound journeys with veterans who once contemplated ending their lives. They illuminate the significance of being there when it mattered most.”

About the Directors: This remarkable film is directed by the talented duo, Jason Smith, PharmD, and Jonathan Hoffman, PharmD.

Why You Should Attend: This film screening is an opportunity to gain valuable insights into how pharmacists can make a substantial impact on suicide prevention. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in learning how to assist someone in crisis, especially our honored Veterans.

Dear Veteran Service Provider, Mental Health Therapist or Chaplain:

TRR is about to conduct its 16th Warrior Camp® Program! And we have 3 openings.

We have been providing life-saving and life-altering suicide prevention programs for our nations’ warfighters for 10 years with a stellar record – one reported suicide post-program. We know of no other program that can say this.

Suicide prevention is not about raising awareness. It is about ACTIVELY intervening to repair what is leading to suicidal ideation, which, for combat Veterans, we have determined is more about Moral Injury, than PTSD.

So if you know a Combat Veteran who you think is struggling with PTSD and Military Moral Injury, send them our way. They do not need a referral.

Warrior Camp® is FREE. Dates are: September 17-23, 2023

Register Now. Registration will close on Tuesday, September 12th and we have opened up all day Sunday, Sept. 10th for telephone screening appointments (after registration forms are submitted).

On September 11th, 2001, we collectively watched in fear and horror as the world was changed forever by the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history. That morning we lost family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. This year, as we approach the 22nd anniversary of that tragic day, we invite you to gather with fellow members of the 9/11 community.

9/11 Memorial & Museum Community Day

Sunday, September 10, 2023

9/11 Memorial Museum

3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Exclusive Museum Hours

Please join us for a special afternoon for the 9/11 community, on the eve of this year’s commemoration. On Sunday, September 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the 9/11 Memorial Museum will be reserved exclusively for 9/11 and 2/26/1993 family members, family members of individuals who are sick or who have died from 9/11-related illnesses and injuries, 9/11 rescue and recovery workers, first responders, 9/11 and 1993 survivors, active duty military and veterans, lower Manhattan residents and business owners, and active and retired flight crew members.

If you are a member of the 9/11 community, you can reserve your free ticket(s) to the Museum by visiting 911memorial.org/September10. Advanced reservations are strongly encouraged.

Please note that the last entry to the Museum will be at 5:30 p.m.

9/11 Partner Organizations

This year’s Community Day will feature an information session presented by the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the 9/11 Memorial Museum Education Center. This session will cover each of the programs’ distinct missions, eligibility criteria, and enrollment processes. Partner organizations will be available to share resources and information in the Museum’s Concourse Lobby.

Additionally, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Collections team will be in the Museum’s Concourse Lobby to answer your questions about donating to our collection. The Museum is actively accepting donations to the permanent collection. If you have objects, documents, images of a historical or commemorative nature, or a story to share that you believe might be of interest to the Museum, we invite you to speak to our collections team during this event. We kindly ask that you do not bring items for donation.

9/11 Memorial & Museum: New on View

We are pleased to announce the installation of a new exhibition case in Foundation Hall, near the Last Column. This case will contain items from our collection that detail the efforts of various agencies that responded to 9/11 and worked in the subsequent months. The first rotation will feature items from the New York City Department of Sanitation and the New York City Department of Correction.

As part of our dedication to this community, we are currently planning an installation that will speak to the toxic dust on 9/11, the subsequent health impacts on those in the disaster zone, and the years-long fight for health coverage.

Visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum

Earlier this year, in honor of the thousands who survived, risked their lives to save others, and have been impacted by 9/11-related illnesses and injuries, we announced an expanded complimentary ticketing program for visiting the Museum throughout the year. Complimentary Museum tickets are available to:

Complimentary tickets are available throughout the year on a first come, first served basis.

As always, admission to the 9/11 Memorial Museum is complimentary for 9/11 family members.

22nd Anniversary of 9/11: Join Us on the Memorial Glade

Prior to the public opening of the Memorial on Monday, September 11th, we invite you to join us at 2:30 p.m. for a moment of tribute on the 9/11 Memorial Glade in honor of those who are sick or have died as a result of 9/11-related illness or injury. As we commemorate these individuals, we will also honor the courage of the 9/11 rescue, recovery, and relief workers and recognize the spirit and resilience of the survivors and members of the downtown community.

Register here: https://trrhelp.org/warrior-camp/#register

Register Now. Registration will close on Tuesday, September 12th and we have opened up all day Sunday, Sept. 10th for telephone screening appointments (after registration forms are submitted).

Largely unknown to most Americans, over the last 20 years, the United States has lost almost five times as many active service members and veterans to suicide than were lost in the entirety of the Global War on Terrorism combat operations.

Final Fight: When the Trauma of War Comes Home, goes deeper than any documentary to date in revealing the root causes of this tragic epidemic by profiling a diverse group of veterans struggling with either combat and sexual assault-related Post Traumatic Stress, a major cause of suicide.

Worse, as the devastating war in Afghanistan and Iraq ground on, US military brass, struggling to fight the longest-running war in United States history, largely ignored- not only the connection between traumatic brain injuries and suicide- but uncontrolled sexual assault among the rank and file.

Leading experts in the field of PTS therapy and brain science offer hope and answers to the struggling veterans profiled in the series but also to the family and friends who love them.

The SOHO Festival is offering free admission to the screening of FINAL FIGHT (as a pay what you can feature) to encourage as many veterans and mental health professionals to attend! If tickets are being purchased beforehand you can just place in “0” for the price, or head to the box office and mention this.

10/4/2023 Free Concert at the new PAC NYC: U.S. Army Field Band Soldiers’ Chorus

7:00pm – 8:45pm
Cost: Free
On 10/4 join The U.S. Army Field Band Soldiers’ Chorus and PAC NYC for a dynamic multimedia concert at 7pm EST. For more information contact Katie Hill, [email protected], (212) 266-3000, or click the link below.

You’re Invited to a Free Concert at the newly opened Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) at the World Trade Center.

Join The U.S. Army Field Band Soldiers’ Chorus and PAC NYC for a dynamic multimedia concert honoring those heroes that walk among us: from the Greatest Generation, who inspired a world to embrace the ideals of democracy, to the professional fighting force that emerged following the attacks of September 11, 2001. Together, we salute their selfless service and we celebrate what it means to answer the call.

Founded in 1957, the Soldiers’ Chorus is the vocal component of The United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC. This 29-member mixed chorus travels throughout the nation and abroad, performing both independently and jointly with the Army Field Band’s Concert Band. The Soldiers’ Chorus has collaborated with the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops, and the Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, Nashville, and National symphony orchestras. The ensemble is a mainstay of PBS’s annual National Memorial Day Concert and has performed for the state funerals of Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.

About PAC NYC

The inaugural season showcases the unparalleled flexibility of three performing arts venues inside PAC NYC: the John E. Zuccotti Theater (seating up to 450 people), the Mike Nichols Theater (seating up to 250) and the Doris Duke Foundation Theater (seating up to 99). The venues can be used individually or combined (total capacity up to 950 seats) with configurations that include theater-in-the-round, end stage, thrust and traverse, to accommodate artistic innovation that can engage and delight audiences in new ways at every visit.

Named for businessman, philanthropist and benefactor Ronald O. Perelman, the Perelman Performing Arts Center is a 138-foot-tall, cube-shaped building with radically flexible capabilities designed by the architecture firm REX, led by founding principal Joshua Ramus. REX’s design, created in collaboration with executive architect Davis Brody Bond, theater consultant Charcoalblue and acoustician Threshold Acoustics, is conceived for an artistic program that will have vast and varied needs to serve New York’s extraordinarily diverse arts community. The building is wrapped in nearly 5,000 half-inch thick marble tiles which have been book matched to create a symmetrical pattern, which is identical on all four sides of the building. The marble façade allows light to radiate in during the day and glow out during the evening. David Rockwell and his architecture and design firm Rockwell Group designed the interior of the lobby and restaurant with a dynamic, glowing ceiling visible from the street to create an inviting entry experience. The lobby’s restaurant Metropolis by chef Marcus Samuelsson, along with the bar and outdoor terrace, offers a new gathering space for the Lower Manhattan community.

10/09/2023 Aurita Maldonato : Purple Heart Recipient, Author, Inspirational Speaker

7:00pm – 9:00pm
Cost: Free
On 10/09 the WVE&T (Women Veterans Empowered & Thriving) will host an evening of storytelling and dance by Aurita Maldonado at 7:00pm EST. For more information contact Jenny Pacanowski, [email protected] or click the link below.

Join WVE&T (Women Veterans Empowered & Thriving) in person at the Hellertown American Legion or join on the zoom livestream for an evening of storytelling and dance by Aurita Maldonado, a Puerto Rican US Army veteran, Purple Heart recipient, best selling author, and Afro Latín dance instructor who has danced intimately with Death.

She served more than 8 years in the military including two combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.

After a 200 lb. IED exploded directly under her vehicle and 3 rounds hit her pack, she chose to simplify her life and follow her dreams.

Aurita left military service and realized that society had become a place where combat veterans would rather commit suicide than live. Many who “have it all” are discovering that they still feel miserable but can’t figure out why. They feel powerless under the boredom of what society deems necessary.

Aurita moved to Haines, AK in 2010 to become a rafting guide in the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and face her PTSD while running through the wilderness.

In 2012, she contracted a serious case of rat lungworm, which paralyzed her from the waist down, leaving her in a wheelchair with neuropathy over her entire body. Aurita was told she would not walk again, but they misjudged her determination.

Her inspirational recovery to walk again and face her post traumatic stress disorder is an incredible story called “The Zen of Dancing in the Rain.”

The Zen of Dancing in the Rain is a fascinating, inspiring story written in a fast-paced and easy to read style that will remind you that you can choose to become your own science experiment, your own work of art, your own dance. It will spark in you a transformation of perspective from being one’s worst critic to one’s best friend. Called by therapists, “A how-to on living authentically mind, body, and soul with the life you have been given and the life you get to create,” Aurita’s story will take you on a journey through war, paralysis, and sorrow mirroring love, adventure, and joy. It will remind you that you don’t need permission to be the first person to do something differently in your family. You may find yourself changing your life after reading this book.

Friday, October 27 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET

The Intrepid Museum invites current and former service members and the public to a screening of the newly restored documentary Vietnam: The Secret Agent. This 1984 film documents the extraordinary history of chemical warfare, agricultural herbicides, damage to the world environment, and the plight of Vietnam War veterans and their families as they struggle for treatment of exposure to Agent Orange and dioxin. Almost 40 years later, Vietnam: The Secret Agent still resonates today as veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq continue to advocate for treatment of health complications due to burn pit exposure.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with the filmmakers and veteran health advocates moderated by Matthew Ryba, Director of Community Outreach and Education at New York-Presbyterian Military Family Wellness Center and Marine Corps Veteran.

This program is free with advance registration.
