Child and Adolescent Resilience Enhancement Program

Overall, this funding will improve the mental health and well-being of 275 military-connected children in Texas and New Mexico by increasing their access to high-quality mental health care.

Over 1.6 million service members and veterans call Texas home, making it the state with the second-largest military-connected population. Increased demand for mental health services for children has coincided with a significant shortage of qualified mental health providers. In 2022, Mental Health America ranked Texas 51st in the nation for access to mental healthcare for children. The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Endeavors provide high-quality mental health care to veterans, service members, and their family members in El Paso, Killeen, San Antonio, and across Texas and New Mexico via telehealth. Endeavors has seen a 20 percent annual increase in referrals for military-connected youth since 2020. They have also witness an increased severity of need, as more children and adolescents present with anxiety and depressive disorders and suicidal ideation.
