HVAF of Indiana

Veteran Workforce Development Program

With this NFL-BWF Healthy Lifestyles and Creating Community award, HVAF will provide

  • employment assistance to 100 veterans, and
  • education, training, work-related items, and case management to 50 veterans to help them find full-time work.

The 2021 annual Point-in-Time count indicated 257 veterans were experiencing homelessness in Marion County—a 16% increase from the year prior. According to the Indiana University Public Policy Institute, the true estimate of the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Marion County annually is three to five times the Point-In-Time count, meaning as many as 1,285 veterans experienced homelessness in Indianapolis in 2021. HVAF of Indiana, the largest nonprofit provider of comprehensive services for veterans in Indiana, helps homeless veterans return to self-sufficiency by providing supportive housing, case management, food, hygiene, clothing, and other essential services. HVAF’s Veteran Workforce Development Program uses a holistic approach to serve veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, including providing funding to ensure veterans with high barriers to employment have every resource necessary to find employment.
