Larson House: Transitional Housing Program

In 2019, the annual Point-in-Time count indicated that there were 7,976 individuals experiencing homelessness in and around the city of Chicago, and that about 10% of these homeless persons were veterans. The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans provides housing, supportive services, and community outreach to help homeless and at-risk veterans and their families achieve self-sufficiency in a thirteen-county service area. The Larson House, MSHV’s transitional housing facility, serves single, male veterans who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. All of the Larson House’s residents are experiencing substance abuse and other mental health or emotional issues. With this NFL-BWF grant, MSHV will improve the housing stability of 20 veterans who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness and also experiencing co-occurring substance use or mental health diagnoses by providing a combination of housing, basic needs, employment, and individualized case management services.
