The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Center at NYU Langone Health’s Child and Family Program

Goal: Provide individual and family therapy and medication management to improve mental health and wellbeing for 35 children in military and veteran families

Since its inception in 2012, the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Center (MFC) at NYU Langone Health has provided compassionate, evidence-based care to nearly 3,500 veterans, service members, and their families in the New York metro area and statewide via telehealth. Through their Child and Family Program, the MFC addresses the complex needs of military and veteran families through individual and family therapy, psychiatric care, parenting skills training, and distress tolerance groups. MFC clinicians have seen increases in suicidal ideation and attempts among military children and teens, as well as challenges with emotional regulation, mood disorders, transitions, and frustration tolerance. This BWF investment will provide individual and family therapy and medication management to improve mental health and wellbeing for 35 children in military and veteran families.
